Sketch Books

Sketching when I'm out and about

I like to pack a tiny pencil roll with a couple of waterpens filled with ink, some coloured pencils and a few markers, that plus a small Dewent Inktense paint palette are all I need. . .and a bar of chocolate, and maybe a thermos of tea.

Come on a walk with me

We'll start by the canal with the sun low in the trees, then across the fields where you can hear the sparrows in the hedgerow then back home as the rooks fly to their roosts and dusk descends

I always always have a sketch book in my bag. Mostly I use them for quick observational drawings but I also use the back of them for working out compositions, ideas for stories and thumbnails.

Sketches from the sea

I adore Anglesey and it's always good to have a bit more time to spend on drawings - these were done in my Pith landscape sketch book
